Joyce A. Hughes

Joyce A. Hughes, age 78 of Belle Fourche, died Monday, August 2, 2021 at  her home.

Services will be held 11am, Thursday, August 5, 2021 at Black Hills National Cemetery.  Arrangements are with Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche.

Joyce Arlene Augustine was born September 11, 1942 in Idaho.  She was the daughter of Stanley and Hazel (Wilhelm) Augustine.  At a young age, Joyce moved with her family to Hill City, where her father worked on the Crazy Horse Memorial.  Joyce attended Hill City High School, where she enjoyed being a cheerleader.  In 1959 she was united in marriage to Larry Hughes.  To this union 5 children were born: Vickie, Linda, Debbie, Stanley, and Mark.  Following their marriage, Larry and Joyce lived in Custer for many years, where Joyce worked as a waitress at the Custer Café.  In 1994 they moved to Belle Fourche.  Larry died in 2015.

Joyce was a generous person who would give anything to anybody.  She cared about people and she especially loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. And Joyce made the best fried chicken and homemade gravy in the world.  She will be greatly missed by all her loving family.

Joyce is survived by her sons, Stanley of Belle Fourche, Mark (Letha) of Custer; daughters, Linda (Rick) Wright of Belle Fourche, Debbie Kurrasch of Rapid City; 9 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and 4 sisters, Cheri, Elaine, Carol, and Mary.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Vickie Sharp; and brothers, Gary and Wayne.
