Margaret Leopold

October 20, 1934 — July 16, 2019

Margaret Leopold, age 84 of Belle Fourche, died Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at the Belle Estate in Belle Fourche.

A visitation will be held 5 to 7 pm Friday at Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fouche. The funeral service will be held 10 am Saturday, July 20, 2019 at the Christian Life Center in Belle Fourche.  Interment will take place in Pine Slope Cemetery.

Margaret Irene Leman was born October 20, 1934 in Rapid City.  She was the daughter of Moses and Lillian (Santler) Leman.  Margaret grew up and attended school in Rapid City, graduating from high school in 1952.  In 1954 she graduated from the Eugene Bible College.  Following that, she entered the nursing program at Emmanuel Hospital School of Nursing in Portland, Oregon.  She graduated in 1958.  Margaret was united in marriage to Harvey Leopold in Rapid City on September 2, 1960.  Following their marriage, they settled in Belle Fourche where Margaret worked as a Registered Nurse at the John Burns Memorial Hospital.  Later she worked a short time at the Sturgis Community Hospital before going to work at Fort Meade VA Medical Center.  In 1981 she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from SDSU.  She worked at the VA for 30 years, retiring in 2008.

Margaret will be remembered for her skill at nursing.  She was a confident and skilled nurse, and she never found a problem in challenging Doctors when she felt it necessary.  She was a detailed person, sometimes to her co-worker’s dismay.  She loved staying in touch with her nursing friends and their monthly lunches.  Margaret loved kids.  She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. The most important thing in her life was her Savior.  Her faith was vital to her, and God used her as an instrument and inspiration in many people’s lives.  She also loved her family so much, and they loved her.  Margaret will be greatly missed.

Margaret is survived by her brother, David (Dory) Leman of Salem OR; nieces and nephews, Douglas (VaLynn) Mednansky of Belle Fourche, Warren (Kathy) Leopold Jr. of Rapid City, Lori Tokley of Belle Fourche, EvaLynn (Galen) Stafford of Newcastle, Eleanore Jean Rissler of Riverton WY, Paul Staton of Oxnard CA, Lois Ann (Dave) Lotspeich of Roseburg, OR, Lavon (Michael) Rose of Pittsburg CA, Lynette (James) Lown of LaComb, OR; and many grand nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harvey; and sister, Marian Staton.
